Hi, friends. I’m Tina. And I’m the gal behind the lens.
My journey into photography started, perhaps almost by accident, over 21 years ago. As a young entrepreneur with a flair for the creative, personal side of business, it was my job to photograph and brand our line of Amish-crafted furniture. I knew nothing about selling furniture, or commercial photography for that matter. But true to my nature, I jumped in with both feet. I bought a camera and began to learn how to photograph and animate the still, stately subjects of oak and cherry handcrafted furniture. We created a brand for our Amish-crafted beauties, and I loved every minute.
In those days it never occurred to me that perhaps I could photograph people.
It wasn’t until my third child was born and our business was really tight, that necessity opened the door to my first portrait session…of my own little girl. The other babies had special “First Year” memory panels done by a professional photographer, and I remember crying my eyes out that it wasn’t going to happen this time. My poor baby would be scarred for life not to have baby pics like her siblings did! (Sniffle here…) We were already a few months behind schedule to memorialize her first year. So gingerly, and without much confidence at all, I photographed my first intentional portrait… of my daughter.
The lighting wasn’t great. But she was dressed adorably. She cried her eyes out until her little face was red and streaked with tears. Click. Click. More tears. But then…something wonderful happened. She decided that this might be okay after all. And then…oh! That smile! Click, Click. Click! That smile that lit up her eyes and glistening cheeks…it warmed my heart. Then. Still.
After that, my kids got pretty good at posing for the camera. I made them do it regularly. And not long after, a close friend asked me to photograph her wedding. I couldn’t believe it. I mean, really. I didn’t have any experience! But she saw something in me that I didn’t yet see in myself…and invested in me with trust and confidence that I could capture those precious memories for her. I cried. She cried. And the day of the wedding, we all cried! And with that one wedding, I was hooked.
Since then I have photographed weddings, families, senior portraits, more commercial work, and even pets! One thing remains. Every session is filled with the uniqueness of some precious part of God’s creation. The wonder of a child. The breathless hope of a new beginning. The solid foundation of years of experience. The beauty of love. Each click captures distinction. Emotion. Life. And today I am sure, more than ever before…
I love seeing life through the lens.
